Letter from the President

Welcome to another exciting season at Post Oak Little League!  The 2024 season will be POLL’s 68th year of baseball, and I am honored to represent Post Oak Little League as this year’s President.  I played at POLL almost 40 years ago.  I am still friends with many of my old teammates.  It’s amazing how generations of people continue to be involved at POLL, from parents who are now grandparents to past players who are now coaches and board members.  I love seeing new families join our league because I know that one day, they will feel the same way so many of us do about POLL.  Once you put on the POLL uniform, you are now part of the POLL family.

My wife Emily and I have been married for 20 years and have been blessed with five children: Annie, Louis, Ellie, Maris, and Margo. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach my son Louis every year.  Although my daughters never played, they have spent just as much time at the fields (cheering on their brother, running around with friends, playing wall ball, and spending all my money at the concession stand), that they consider POLL home as well.

First, I must thank Todd Glazer, our 2023 League President, and Amanda Boffone, our 2023 Women’s Auxiliary President, for their amazing leadership this past season.  We must also thank all past POLL leaders, board members, donors, parents, and women's auxiliary volunteers for making POLL what it is today, the best little league in the country.  POLL not only provides an excellent opportunity for our children to play quality baseball in the heart of Houston, but it is also a community of families that truly care about the success of the league.

On the baseball side, POLL is made up of four divisions.  Peewees, Minors, Majors, and Juniors.  For the past several seasons, we have reached max capacity in all divisions.  Our divisions are coached by dads except for the Juniors division, which is coached by young men, mostly alumni of POLL.  All our coaches are volunteers who give a lot of their own time, money, and heart to these kids every year. Thank you!

Part of the reason that our community is such a special place not just for players but for entire families is because of our Women’s Auxiliary.   We are extremely blessed to have Katharine Rider lead this amazing group of women this year and I am grateful to work alongside her.  The WA oversees all non-baseball related events such as parties, special activities, fundraising, spirit store, sponsorships, and the annual carnival.  Thank you, women’s auxiliary, for all that you do for POLL, you are truly what makes it special!

Because of our extremely generous donors, you will notice a few things that are different when you return to the park this year. The most obvious will be new turf in front of the concession stand, turfed home plate areas and pitching mounds on all four fields.   A few other changes are as follows: a revised concessions menu and new pricing that reflects our family friendly environment, updated signage, an improved website, improved web cameras and viewing, and the inaugural annual parent party. The parent party will be a reasonably priced casual party for all parents to attend and wear their team colors to kick off the new season – details coming soon!  Finally, we have been working hard to try to find a site for some additional fields.  Hopefully, we will be able to make this a reality and be able to share some exciting news with everyone soon.  Thank you, players, parents, coaches, donors, and volunteers.

Good Luck this season.  WE ARE POLL!!!
